ICAM Compatta Mobile Racking

ICAM's Compatta range turns racking into high-density storage designed for heavy, long and bulky goods. Mounted on mobile bases that move along rails, Compatta creates a floating aisle that allows you to access your stored materials at just the desired location, and turns your empty aisles into additional storage capacity. Compatta is very similar in concept to Compactus-style mobile shelving, but is built to suit large sized storage solutions such as pallet racking, cantilever & multi-tier racking.

Technical Specifications

Mobile bases

COMPATTA mobile bases, available in 4 series (LB, MS, ML, MR) with 2- or 4-wheel configurations, cover load capacities from 400 up to 1,200 metric tons per base. Length is configurable from 2 to 75 meters, with translation speed up to 7.2 m/min. All series feature Burback A45 guide rails with Sendzimir galvanized finish as standard.

Racking

Any type of racking mounts onto COMPATTA mobile bases, pallet racking, cantilever, and multi-tier racking, new or already present in the warehouse. The first load level height is 310 mm for pallet bases, compatible with manual pallet trucks, and variable for cantilever bases depending on the column sizing.

System and control

A single main control panel manages up to 8 sub-systems, each consisting of a maximum of 24 aisles. The 10″ PC Panel operator panel and remote control allow aisle selection without leaving the forklift. ICON software handles monitoring, alarms, traceability, and native WMS/ERP integration.

COMPATTA is ICAM's mobile racking system for high-density storage of heavy and bulky loads. Racking units slide on motorized bases and open a single access aisle only where needed, only when needed. +40% floor space recovered with the same inventory. +80% storage capacity in the same footprint.

• Remote control and FLOW: the aisle opens without the operator leaving the forklift. FLOW detects passing vehicles and prevents base movement until the area is clear. Maximum ergonomics, zero operational risk.

Compatta is an excellent solution for cold rooms, offering benefits in both space optimization and energy efficiency. The mobile racking system reduces the cell’s overall volume while maintaining the same storage capacity or doubles the capacity within the same space. By drastically reducing empty space, it preserves uniform temperatures and minimizes thermal dispersion, leading to significant energy savings.

Lux: An automatic energy saving system where lights are automatically activated only in the aisle being used. In emergencies, full corridor illumination ensures maximum safety.

Picking: A solution that enables manual picking by simultaneously opening multiple person-wide aisles.

FLOW (ForkLift-Optimized Warehouse): An intelligent system that detects forklift movements, preventing mobile bases from operating until the area is clear and enabling safe operation consent.

Safety Devices

The protection of operators and materials is non-negotiable.

Photoelectric barriers monitor entries and exits; photo sensors along the mobile bases safely stop the system in the presence of obstacles. Manual handling requires explicit operator consent via dedicated buttons.

Management & Control Systems

The control and management system consists of a main PLC & EtherCAT connection to the electrical panels on board the mobile bases.

The operator interface (HMI) uses a 10" (25.4 cm) industrial PANEL PC with a simple and intuitive user interface equipped with numerous functions:

Real-time monitoring of system status and mobile bases
Alarm and warning management for proactive maintenance
Advanced control of mobile bases, activating the system's available features
Integrated remote assistance within the operator panel for quick interventions and remote diagnostics

With Compatta, managing the warehouse becomes simple, fast and secure, even remotely.

Thanks to the remote control, the desired aisle can be opened without disembarking the forklift, optimising working time and enhancing operational safety.

Each Compatta system is equipped with a remote control featuring:
